Whenever I order this NSN I get a brass layered plate Master Lock. I am in desperate need of the 5200 series locks for my Arms Room.

I have the 5200 padlock. 5340-01-346-4611 but is not the key retaining 5200 necessary for the arms room. I had ordered some of the 5200 key retaining but this last time I got the masterlocks.

the 3807 shows a picture of 5200 series but it came in as masterlocks. It may just what they have in stock since they both meet the requirement.

The class for these locks is II. I have never seen a lock as class IX in my carreer. I'm a 92Y and I haven't seen one yet.

Keyed alike lock sets are class IX as they are components for vehicles and tool kits

American and Master are sister companies. Both owned by the same company. Apparently laminated locks are cheaper to manufacture than the solid body. Master's meet Federal Dept of General services specs. Master's are sold cheaper to the U. S. than American's. The owner of both companies still makes its profit. That is what happened!
