This message board is here so you can view the latest additions to our NSN library. In addition, you can request new NSN's that you don't currently see listed. To do this, click on the "New Topic" button and make your request. So if you're looking for the NSN for a certain model of 5-ton truck, or a certain kind of power supply, or antenna kit, etc, just put as much information as you know: LIN, Nomenclature, or anything else that would be helpful. If desired, add an email / AKO address if you want a direct reply (this is not required). Then we'll do some looking on our end and see what we can find out. But...... we can't guarantee that we'l be able to find every NSN that people request, because of the difficulty in conducting detailed research on each one. (Assistance from the community would be highly appreciated, in cases where we're stumped!)

d. The tape measure should be made of a non-stretchable material, preferably fiberglass; cloth or steel tapes are
unacceptable. Cloth measuring tapes will stretch with usage and most steel tapes do not conform to body surfaces. The
tape measure should be calibrated, i.e., compared with a yardstick or a metal ruler to ensure validity. This is done by
aligning the fiberglass tape measure with the quarter inch markings on the ruler. The markings should match those on
the ruler; if not, do not use that tape measure. The tape should be 1/4- to 1/2-inch wide (not exceeding 1/2-inch) and a
minimum of 5–6 feet in length. A retractable fiberglass tape is the best type for measuring all areas. Tapes currently
available through the Army Supply System (Federal Stock Number 8315–00–782–3520) may exceed the 1/2-inch
width limits and could slightly impact on circumferential measurements. Efforts are being made to replace the supply
system tape with a narrower retractable tape. In the interim, the current Army supply system or any other fiberglass
tape not to exceed 5/8-inch may be used if retractable tapes cannot be purchased by unit budget funds available and
approved by installation commanders.

I still have not seen the retractable tape measure or it's NSN

Amazing.... from what you've just posted, it would appear that all the old cloth measuring tapes that were used by all my former units are now unauthorized! I guess people on the "special PT" program can now start to appeal all the bars / flags / NJP that they've been getting, for all these years...

actually it says

In the interim, the current Army supply system or any other fiberglass
tape not to exceed 5/8-inch may be used
if retractable tapes cannot be purchased by unit budget funds available and
approved by installation commanders.

so it's still authorized. amazing thing is that this has been in the reg for along time.

The NSN provided is no longer valid. Is there another NSN to use?

Not sure exactly the standard you are referring to. The regulation defines the dimensions and characteristics of the tape authorized for use. I'm curious if you are referring to a "gulick tape", however they are "unacceptable" per G1.

The latest NSN posted in the most recent AR 600-9 is 8315–01–238–8103, which is different than the one posted above from 2009.
