Post subject:  Maternity ACU's

There have been a lot of questions lately about Maternity ACU's.

While ArmyProperty.com does not yet sell these items, we have done some looking around on the internet and found a pretty comprehensive answer from a message board on a site called "babyfit.com" -- and which we've attached below.

It would appear from reading the message, that you have several options for securing a good set of maternity ACU's (which appear to be a big step up from the old maternity BDU's). I hope this helps you out.

Thanks,

FROM "ARMYMOMOF4"

I get asked these questions every day!...I am stationed in Korea and have become the de facto poster child for the Maternity ACU uniform here in Yongsan. My husband found them while TDY at Fort Bragg in the military clothing sale store there in January. (He also saw them at Fort Jackson and Fort Huachuca.) I've researched the subject for months now, and here is what I know... Yes, CIF will issue maternity uniforms to both enlisted and officers with the appropriate memorandum from your unit (the FREE option). However, ours here, like most in CONUS probably, still only carries the BDU maternity items...and will probably continue to do so until the mandatory ACU wear date arrives and/or their BDU stocks are used up. But like the rest of you, I detest my old maternity BDUs, which were surely designed by a neanderthal man. So my quest began. I also obtained the NSN list from DLA, which is on this conversation thread several posts before this one. So here are the only real options that I've found...contact a friend at one of the big installations like Fort Bragg and ask them to purchase them from clothing sales and send them to you...or as soon as you find out you are pregnant, special order them from your local military clothing sales store using the NSNs posted earlier. If you are overseas this can take about 3 months, so don't procrastinate! (If you are in CONUS, the clothing sale stores can obtain particular sizes from other stores in the country in just a couple of days.) Note that you can stretch out the regular ACU wear by buying or borrowing a pair of pants one size larger than your pre-pregnancy size and using a set of NBC suspenders to keep them up. Once they get too tight, use a small hair elastic band (ponytail holder) threaded through the top button hole and then pulled over the button to get you through another month or so. This got me to the 32 week mark. The regular ACU blouse generally is loose enough to get you to about the 5 or 6 month mark, or borrow one a size larger (the beauty of velcro nametapes!).

As for sizing, the ACU items match the sizing of the BDU maternity items...which run strangely small compared to civilian clothing with the same sizing...ie. 10, 12, 14, 16 etc. instead of normal uniform sizing (SM, MED, LG). So just visit your CIF and try on the BDU items to figure out the right size if you are going to special order the ACU item.

Today I sent an email note to the on-line AAFES customer service asking if they would add the maternity ACU items, since they already carry the BDU versions. We'll see what they say. Good luck to all of you!

I have not been in the army guard long, but it seems like there is some major disconnect between the supplier and the actual soldier getting maternity acu's. I have been told that my unit's supply sgt can't find any, cif doesn't have any and that I'm pretty much out of luck. That wouldn't be a problem, but I'm full-time guard, so I wear my uniform everyday. I can't find them online to buy out of pocket and when I call clothing sales at any base, they say I should go through my unit to the cif. I called DLA to ask them a question but they never returned my call. I'm pretty frustrated at this issue. Surely I'm not the only pregnant soldier in the guard! Now I wish I had kept my old-style camo maternity cammies from the Marine Corps. Does anyone have any insight who I could bug about this next??

I know I'm not the biggest person, but i wore a Large ACu pant and now I'm pregnant and the biggest size that they have is a 22 in the ACU pant. The 22 is actually probably a 16 in real clothes. i have hips, so they are tight. Does anyone know if you can get a bigger size?
