This message board is here so you can view the latest additions to our NSN library. In addition, you can request new NSN's that you don't currently see listed. To do this, click on the "New Topic" button and make your request. So if you're looking for the NSN for a certain model of 5-ton truck, or a certain kind of power supply, or antenna kit, etc, just put as much information as you know: LIN, Nomenclature, or anything else that would be helpful. If desired, add an email / AKO address if you want a direct reply (this is not required). Then we'll do some looking on our end and see what we can find out. But...... we can't guarantee that we'l be able to find every NSN that people request, because of the difficulty in conducting detailed research on each one. (Assistance from the community would be highly appreciated, in cases where we're stumped!)

Here they are:

"Original" MSS (dating back to mid-1990s): http://www.armyproperty.com/nsn/8465-01-445-6274
All versions of the MSS and IMSS fall under the same Line Item Number (LIN): https://www.armyproperty.com/lin/M60483

The 4-Part Modular Sleep System (MSS) (Regular Size) includes the following items:

1. Camo Green (OD Green) Patrol Sleeping Bag, http://www.armyproperty.com/nsn/8465-01-398-0685
Rated for temperatures 50 to 30°. Reversible double-pull (opens end to end) slider allows top or bottom ventilation. Non-locking slide fastener self repairs if jammed or snagged. Draft flap prevents heat loss. Hood adjusts for heat retention; includes nylon drawcord and barrel lock. X-Long version measures 87-89″ Long and 35-37″ Wide (22-24″ at foot). 3lbs.

2. Black Intermediate Cold Weather (ICW) Sleeping Bag, http://www.armyproperty.com/nsn/8465-01-398-0687
Rated for temperatures 30 to -10°. Sewn insulation does not migrate in the bag. Anatomically designed foot box contains twice the insulation as the bag. Sewn-in, quilted chest collar prevents air drafts up and down through the hood. Hood adjusts for heat retention; includes nylon drawcord and barrel lock. X-Long version measures 87-89″ Long and 34-36″ Wide (21-23″ at foot). 4lbs.

3. Black Compression Stuff Sack, http://www.armyproperty.com/nsn/8465-01-398-5428
Compressible to one cubic foot, six or nine 1″-wide nylon webbing straps adjust by ladder lock buckles. Measures up to 23.5″ in length, Just over 10″ in diameter.

4. Woodland Camouflage Waterproof Bivy Cover, http://www.armyproperty.com/nsn/8465-01-416-8517
Made of waterproof and windproof 3-layer GORE-TEX® fabric. When combined with Patrol and ICW bags, the system is rated to climates -20 and to -50° with proper clothing. Approved by all agencies of the DOD.
X-Long version measures 87-89″ Long and 34-36″ Wide (27-29″ at foot).

There is also a 3-Part MSS, which has items 1-3 shown above, but no bivy cover: http://www.armyproperty.com/nsn/8465-01-395-1154

Additionally, there are Extra-Long versions of the Patrol Sleeping Bag, ICW Sleeping Bag, and Bivy Cover:
OD Green Patrol Bag: https://www.armyproperty.com/nsn/8465-01-452-1688
Black ICW Sleeping Bag: https://www.armyproperty.com/nsn/8465-01-452-1690
Woodland Camo Bivy Cover: https://www.armyproperty.com/nsn/8465-01-452-1695

In 2007, the Army introduced a 5-part Improved Modular Sleeping System (IMSS) which added a second stuff sack, and updated the colors to reflect the Army's newer ACU/UCP camouflage pattern.

Here is the NSN for the IMSS in "Regular" size: https://www.armyproperty.com/nsn/8465-01-547-2757
Here's the IMSS in "X-Long" size: https://www.armyproperty.com/nsn/8465-01-551-9876
(Before getting a "real" NSN, the IMSS had the following "non-standard" NSN: http://www.armyproperty.com/nsn/8465-MR-445-6274)

Here are the components of the IMSS:

1. Foliage Green Patrol Sleeping Bag
Regular: http://www.armyproperty.com/nsn/8465-01-547-2706
X-Long: http://www.armyproperty.com/nsn/8465-01-547-2712

2. Urban Gray Intermediate Cold Weather (ICW) Sleeping Bag
Regular: http://www.armyproperty.com/nsn/8465-01-547-2694
X-Long: http://www.armyproperty.com/nsn/8465-01-547-2697

3. Foliage Green (Small) Compression Stuff Sack, http://www.armyproperty.com/nsn/8465-01-547-2656

4. Foliage Green (Large) Compression Stuff Sack, http://www.armyproperty.com/nsn/8465-01-547-2670

5. ACU Pattern (UCP) Waterproof Bivy Cover
Regular: http://www.armyproperty.com/nsn/8465-01-547-2644
X-Long: http://www.armyproperty.com/nsn/8465-01-547-2355

There are two sleeping mats (aka "sissy pads") that are typically used with the MSS and IMMS:
(Standard foam version): https://www.armyproperty.com/nsn/8465-01-109-3369
(Self-Inflating Version): https://www.armyproperty.com/nsn/8465-01-393-6515
