Hand Receipts on ArmyProperty.com are valid for all NSN's of the
modernized GMTK, which replaces an older version. The new GMTK is a soldier-portable tool
kit designed for use by any repairman requiring basic automotive-type
hand tools. It is used by all maintainers in Career Management Field 63.
The GMTK is also used as a component in the Forward Repair System (FRS),
and is the base kit for the Multi-capable Maintainer Tool Kit (MCMTK)
for the newly established MOS 63A, Abrams Main Battle Tank Maintainer,
and MOS 63M, Bradley Fighting Vehicle Maintainer.
The GMTK consists of 136 tools including the
following:
Square drive sockets in
both metric and S.A.E. sizes
Ratchets
Extensions
Combination wrenches
Flat tip and cross-tip
screwdrivers
Hammer
Flashlight
Hole/thread/thickness
gages
Drive punches
Cold chisels
Pliers in various styles
and sizes
All components are
industrial quality. The majority of tools, including the
sockets, ratchets, extensions, wrenches, and
screwdrivers have a Lifetime Warranty against
breakage during normal use.
The entire tool load is
contained in a 4-drawer injection molded plastic toolbox
that has wheels and a retractable handle for easier
mobility. Each drawer has a foam liner with individual
cutouts that hold each tool in a specific place,
providing the rapid inventory capability required by the
soldier. The GMTK can be inventoried in less than 15
minutes. The rapid inventory capability enables
the user to identify missing tools immediately, thereby
reducing tool loss and pilferage.
The toolbox measures 24"
wide, 15" deep, and 18" high. It is one of the
only toolboxes in the Army that has been tested
for durability. Testing included:
60" drop test (fully
loaded)
360 degree roll test
Water, impact, and crush
resistance tests
Cold temperature
performance 24" drop testing at -25 degrees
The toolbox includes a
padlock to secure the exterior of the toolbox during
storage of transportation and to secure personal
belongings in the interior storage compartment during
use. The GMTK is stackable to four high, and weighs
about 90 lbs.
The GMTK family NSN is
5180-01-481-8389. This is a reference/procurement number
only, not a physical item. The GMTK is bought based on
performance specifications. Two vendors have supplied
the GMTK. For warranty purposes, separate related NSNs
are used to identify each contractors product.
NSN 5180-01-483-0249,
supplied by Kipper Tool Company, consists of a green
toolbox and primarily S&K and Crescent brand tools.
NSN 5180-01-483-0250,
supplied by Danaher Tool Group, consists of a black toolbox and
primarily DK/Allen brand tools.
NOTE: The Danaher
GMTK (black toolbox - NSN 5180-01-483-0250)
is no longer available for purchase. Only the Kipper Tool Company
GMTK (green toolbox - NSN 5180-01-483-0249)
is available.
The GMTK
now has an accessory wheel kit (pictured below) that
allows a set of wheels to be attached to the bottom fin
of the box. These wheels increase the stability of the box
when used on surfaces that are less than smooth.
This kit is only
for the Kipper GMTK, LIN T28688, NSN 5180-01-483-0249.
This kit cannot
be used with the Danaher GMTK, LIN T28688, NSN 5180-01-483-0250.
